Rabid Squirrels of the Grand Canyon

Spring break 2003, Thomas and I spent some time at the Grand Canyon, where the threat of death by squirrel continues to grow. More details below, more Grand Canyon pictures coming later.

We were first warned about the danger by this sign. Text reads: "Enjoy squirrels form a safe distance. Their sharp teeth crack nutsÑand cut fingers. On a given day, as many as 30 park visitors with bleeding fingers require medical attention. If squirrels approach you, back away and give them space. Never approach or feed wild animals. It is against the law. You may be jailed or fined." My response: "If one of those squirrels gets near me, I'll knife him."

The squirrel starts rummaging through Thom's bag.

The squirrel goes for the Chex Mix, which was unopened. The squirrel succeeded in getting the bag open before Thom would allow me to try to rescue it.

Here's a link to a movie Thom took. Thom found the squirrels amusing and decided to film them going after our food. Meanwhile, off camera, I have my knife out and another squirrel starts circling me, looking for a chance to strike...
